Frequently Asked Questions
I've never played an instrument before. Can I still have lessons?
Of course! You will need to buy or hire the instrument you want to learn, but there is no previous experience required. We can start from the beginning in whatever way you learn best.
What ages do you teach?
It depends what instrument you want to learn. The size of the instrument requires your hands to be a certain size, so I recommend the following:
Alto saxophone: 9+
Flute: 8+
Clarinet: 8+
Ukulele: 7+
There is no upper age limit.
What happens if I miss a lesson?
Lessons cancelled within 24 hours of the booked time are chargeable. If a lesson is cancelled by me it will be rescheduled.
Do I have to do exams?
Only if you want to! ABRSM graded exams are a great way learn and give you a rounded experience of music and the instrument. Equally, we can just learn for fun. If there are specific pieces or genres of music you want to learn, please bring them along or let me know and I can cater the lessons to you.
Can I make a block booking?
Yes, lessons can be booked in blocks of four, to be paid in advance of the first lesson.
Can you travel to me?
Because of scheduling, it isn’t always possible for me to travel to the students’ houses. If it can be arranged, there is an extra £5 chargeable for time/travel expense.
Do I have to come with rep for acting lessons?
Sometimes that can be helpful, yes. If you’re auditioning for drama school, come with the monologues you’re thinking of choosing. I can make suggestions of new material where appropriate. If you’re completely new to acting and don’t know where to start, don’t hesitate to drop me a message and we can discuss further!
